National Geographic admits that their publication of the discovery of a feathered dinosaur was a total hoax.
During this talk, we will review the history of ethics and science as well as recount some of the most celebrated scientists and their controversial discoveries.
Having reviewed some of the history of ethics and science we will explore the embarrassing developments that surrounded National Geographic's publication of the Archaeoraptor story. We will review the conduct of the scientists and researchers involved with the project and discuss some of the reasons why people acted the way they did.
Ultimately, participants will be challenged to review codes of conduct for scientists and asked about their knowledge of existing ethical codes that govern their work as students and future researchers.
